I’ve recently had a huge epiphany: I’m not for everyone. 😲 As a recovering people pleaser, this was big news to me because I’ve long held the mistaken belief that I could pretzel myself into being pleasing to all. I know, it's crazy and crazy-making.
This hits so hard in such a good way. When I was 26 and fresh out of music grad school, I didn't know what kind of music I liked to play on my violin. I didn't even know if I liked playing violin. I had spent 20 years practicing what someone else had told me to practice, living other people's dreams, pleasing everyone else. Now I can answer those questions for myself and it feels so good.
